Part of the reason I wrote The Asterisk, A Fan’s Grievance On Cheating And Rule Manipulation In The NFL, is The New England Patriots’ history of cheating and circumventing the rules. They are undisputedly the most prolific cheaters in professional sports history. Indeed, I called them the most corrupt organization in professional sports.
The NFL recently announced The New England Patriots fine of a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and a $1.1 million fine with their crew not allowed to record games during the 2020 season.
Bill Belichick again denied having any involvement with the production crew caught filming at a Cincinnati Bengals football game. He stated in a conference call, “We’re competitive and we’ll try to be competitive in every area. But since [the events of 2007] happened, I’d say we’ve tried to keep a good distance behind the line and not maybe take it as far as we might have in the past. But it’s never really fundamentally changed there.”
Not only should Bill Belichick’s legacy be tarnished, but he should also at the very least be suspended from the sport indefinitely. Those were the terms of the 2007 agreement with the New England Patriots’ organization and Roger Goodell. The buck stops a Bill Belichick’s desk and he should be held accountable.
